HISTORY

On the 1st July’05’ Shan Childrens’ Home opened it’s doors to the young and less privileged children. The need for a “Shelter” or “Home” in the vicinity of Prai was identified by Dr Balakrishnan and some caring individuals. The Home is professionally managed by a qualified & committed Management Committee comprising of the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and four Committee Members. We cater for children who come from distressed backgrounds or broken families where they are deprived of basic necessities including education. At the Home our children experience structured daily living surrounded by love and laughter with comfortable clothings, nourishing meals, medical attention, counseling and encouraged academic success. Knowing that childhood is a critical time in which to develop the skills necessary to become competent, self-reliant and productive citizens, we strive to provide an optimum setting for this development. We do this for each child by creating a corrective living experience. We are therefore dedicated to improving the lives of children at risk. As of date we have 19 children, aged 5 years to 19years ( 5 boys & 14 girls ) We depend entirely on the public for donations both in cash and kind.
